Pigspurt: Or Six Pigs from Happiness
Published in Paperback by Heinemann (January, 1995)
Author: Ken Campbell
Average review score:

A comic theatrical fugue on identity, Philip K Dick and God.
The performance text, more or less, with a few footnotes and entertaining illustrations of Ken Campbell's award winning comic monologue Pigspurt or Six Pigs from Happiness. A wealth of inventive storytelling most of which is autobiographical at root if not in full flower. A complexly structured but deceptively accessible associative rap encompassing Gnostic thought, theatrical anecdote, sexual role playing, an exploration of anima and animus and shadow, Philip K Dick's later work, conspiracy theory, the customs of Vanuatu, the comedy of Ken Dodd and much else besides. A funny, funny book with a few pointers to further thought. The illustrations also mean its quite fun to flick through.

There aren't really any other books much like this I can think of but works in peripherally similar veins include;

The BFI casebook on the Exorcist by Mark Kermode

VALIS, The Divine Invasion, The Transmigration of Timothy Archer by Philip K Dick,

In search of VALIS by Laurence Sutin,

An Inspector Calls by JB Priestley,

Why is John Lennon wearing a skirt? by Claire Dowie

Swimming to Cambodia by Spalding Gray

Laughter in the Air by Barry Took

Play With Little Bunny/Book and Stickers (A Sticker Story)
Published in Hardcover by Viking Childrens Books (March, 1994)
Authors: Harriet Zieffert, Lisa Campbell Ernst, and Harriet Ziefert

Read to Your Child to Improve Bonding and Intellect!
Researchers constantly find that reading to children is valuable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading and improved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, your child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate better to others. Intellectual performance will expand as well. Spending time together watching television fails as a substitute.

To help other parents apply this advice, as a parent of four I consulted an expert, our youngest child, and asked her to share with me her favorite books that were read to her as a young child. Play With Little Bunny was one of her picks.

This book has five scenes with Little Bunny in them. In the first, she is going to build a tower with blocks. In the second, Little Bunny is painting a picture. In the third, she plays dress-up. She also makes music in another scene. She reads a book before she goes to bed in the final one.

Your child is encouraged to help Little Bunny by helping her find her blocks and building with them. Your child also helps Little Bunny get some colors for her painting. When Little Bunny plays dress-up, your child can add her hat and shoes. Your child also helps her get her drum and bells. And your child sings to Little Bunny. Your child also helps Little Bunny find a story and relates one to her.

The stickers are wonderful because they are of see-through plastic, and they stick really well. It is pretty easy for your child to peel them from one spot and move them to another one.

As you can see, this book basically puts your young child in the position of playing the role of older sibling or parent for Little Bunny. Because the stickers can be put anywhere, your child will have endless possibilities of how to use them. My daughter would decide that she wanted to put them all on one page. After she did, she would laugh and laugh.

Through playing a nurturing role, your child can begin to unravel the mysteries of how adults and older siblings think about younger people and animals.

Overcome your stalled thinking about what your child is capable of in terms of coordination, thoughtfulness, and imagination. You'll be glad you did, and your child will love you all the more for it. You'll have a ball helping your child with this book. Learning to read can be a ball with than this book!

The Politics of Myth: A Study of C.G. Jung, Mircea Eliade, and Joseph Campbell (Suny Series, Issues in the Study of Religion)
Published in Hardcover by State Univ of New York Pr (September, 1999)
Author: Robert S. Ellwood
Average review score:

Wonderful debunker of running myths.
A refreshing read that gives the details about the lives and times of these three brillian men. It helps to debunk all the soot that has accumulated upon their work from the burning fires of conservatives and the religious right. The attempts to tarnish their names with accusations of anti-semitism and other prejudices fall flat in front of the facts. This book shows that people must deal with the political waves of their own times, but it does not necessarily make them of the same dogmatic ilk.

The Powder Monkey (Young American Series)
Published in Paperback by White Mane Publishing Co. (September, 1999)
Author: Carole R. Campbell
Average review score:

A Fascinating Book for Young Readers
The Powder Monkey is a fascinating book for young readers. The author has combined history with fiction in such a way as to create a magical window for today's youngsters into that era and place that still leaves its mark upon our nation today. A significant portion of The Powder Monkey is the true account of the two-day battle between the Confederate ironclad Virginia and several Union warships, including the famed USS Monitor. Ms. Campbell has skillfully woven into this history the tale of a young boy, Tad Lynch, who, having been inaddvertly left on board, becomes a powder boy and a helper with many of the chores on the Southern ship. Scorned at first by some of the crew, Tad wins their affection and admiration by the way he performs his duties and attends to them when they are injured. Every young boy should read this book. Not only is it interesting and fun, but the underlying example of courage and devotion to what is right is something badly needed among many of our young people of today. I highly recommend The Powder Monkey.

An excellent choice for elementary teachers!

Practical Primer of Clinical Neurology
Published in Paperback by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishers (15 December, 2001)
Authors: William W. Campbell and Rhonda M. Pridgeon
Average review score:

Good Pocketbook and Reference
Practical Primer of Clinical Neurology was a great pocket reference. It had
an appropriate amount of information on each topic. The enrichment boxes
throughout the text would highlight important differences between concepts
to help you know more. Diagrams and tables were all appropriate and the web
references in the text help you learn more on subjects. This book knows it
place and doesn't get bogged in detail, making it a great read for those on
a neurology rotation. Coupled with a question book, Practical Primer helped
me get prepared for the shelf test and take it with confidence.

Praying the Bible: The Book of Prayers
Published in Paperback by Regal Books (August, 2002)
Authors: Wesley Campbell, Stacey Campbell, and Mike Bickle
Average review score:

Wonderful Prayer Aid
Tonight there was a brief but powerful prayer time at a Christian gathering where Wesley Campbell spoke. He had everyone take this book of Bible prayers and walk around in a circle, praying aloud the prayers. A great idea for corporate or personal use!
While the print is not tiny, I would suggest publication of larger print editions for Baby Boomer use in dim meeting places. :)

Presidential Lies: The Illustrated History of White House Golf
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (May, 1998)
Authors: Shep Campbell, Peter Landau, and Shepherd Campbell
Average review score:

One of the best titles since "Atlas Shrugged"!
An enjoyable, enlightening read, Presidential Lies is great fun. It also makes a terrific gift for business contacts as well as that large body of people who are otherwise impossible to buy for. The book weaves its way through a picaresque landscape of 20th century American history and the game loved by many, but mastered by few. It's nice to learn how much we have in common with so many Presidents..
